If the lights, the excitement, and the lounge acts excite you, a Las Vegas casino career might be just the thing for you. Employment in Las Vegas is plentiful with casinos on every block, tourists and locals filling the seats with hopes to win a buck or at least break even. The Internet is a good place to start if you have experience working in a casino or have had casino training. If you have no experience, a casino training school is an option and it will certainly stand out on your resume. You will most likely start out on the bottom with unrelated jobs or cleaning, but the opportunities for advancement are many.
CASINO TRAINING SCHOOL
If you are seriously considering a career in the casino industry, a casino training school may be worth looking into. With the casino gaming industry on the rise, training is a great way to get the upper hand against your competition. Upon receiving training, you can work for the big name casinos and even on cruise ships.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
It takes an enormous staff to run a casino and there is certainly more to it than the glamorous visions you see on television. Aside from the bartenders and dealers that are portrayed, it is actually the staff behind the scenes that keep things running smoothly.
Just to list a few of the jobs on the main floor - Dealers, Slot waitresses, Table waitresses, Bartenders, Doormen, Porters, Cashiers, Writers, Slot machine personnel, Security guards, Booth personnel, Receptionists.
Behind the scenes there are more employment opportunities - Table money counters, Slot machine counters, Clerical staff, Auditors, Bouncers, Surveillance personnel, Cleaners and rubbish removal personnel, Marketers and advertisers, Information officers, Booking personnel, Hosts, Managers, Personnel management, Lawyers, Dock loaders, Chefs and kitchen staff, Dieticians, Camera ladies, Entertainers, Maintenance staff, Bouncers, Stock Buyers, Accountants.
Once you get into a casino and prove yourself, you can quickly climb the ladder to more appealing positions. With new casino construction on the rise and everyone flocking to the newer establishments, there are frequent openings to advance your career. Casinos usually hire more staff than they need and weed out the slackers.
SALARIES
Floor supervisors and managers are at the top of the totem pole in earnings followed by poker, craps, and baccarat dealers. Their take is from $40 to $270 a day depending on the location. Dealers live mainly off tips and tend to have very low salaries. The pit and slot waiters are next in line earning the most in tips. Security personnel can earn $70 to $120 a day depending on location. Some casinos offer free medical. Many of the positions within casinos are represented by unions.
WORK PERMITS
Upon being hired to work at a casino, Human Resources will assist you in obtaining a Sheriff's card or a "work permit." If you are serving alcohol, you will also need a card to handle or sell liquor. This also applies if you handle food.
Whether you seek a job on the floor or behind the scenes, there are many exciting opportunities with a career in the casino gaming industry. Many positions require some experience or training, but there are a few unrelated positions that can get your foot in the door. From there, you can advance through on-the-job training, depending on your desired position. If you never want a dull moment, this may be just the path to follow.

Las Vegas core industry is, as you might expect, the hotels and casinos. Though many people believe that these Las Vegas jobs are plentiful, they are actually quite competitive. Still, a person new to Las Vegas can do some things to assist in finding those Las Vegas jobs in the hotel and casino industry.
If you are a newcomer to the Las Vegas area an looking for Las Vegas jobs in the hotel/casino industry, you should probably try to start with off-strip casinos to gain experience and break into the industry. Las Vegas - Construction Jobs Galore
By Gabrielle Earl
Las Vegas was founded on innovation and new beginnings. Now, more than 100 years later, the city has only strengthened its commitment to the early fundamentals it was built upon.
Whether it's the latest casino, a chic new condominium high-rise, additional housing or more business complexes, the Las Vegas Valley is constantly growing and changing. And with Las Vegas supporting about 1.8 million residents according to the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority in 2005, change is good.
Gaining exposure for its novelty and thriving from supplying tourists, residents and investors with the latest and greatest, it seems Las Vegas' only constant - is change itself. And with the city's predictability for change comes unique job security for construction professionals.
In fact, there are currently more than 4,000 construction job openings in Las Vegas, which means when one job ends, there is always another job that needs to be filled. Additionally, more than $24 billion in construction is planned for Las Vegas Boulevard over the next five years, with project City Center alone opening up more than 7,000 construction jobs ranging from entry level to senior level positions. And because construction professionals are in high demand in Las Vegas, wages are well above the national average - some being the highest in the country.
However, construction professionals aren't the only people finding jobs in Southern Nevada. With Southern Nevada's unemployment rate one of the lowest in the country, spouses and family members of construction professionals have a smorgasbord of employment opportunities open to them as well.
Much of Las Vegas' substantial growth has been in the last decade-plus, making Nevada the country's fastest growing state for nearly 20 years. To keep up with its booming population, the city has expanded its horizons to meet the needs no longer just of tourists, but those of families wanting to turn Las Vegas into their home.
Because of this, affordable housing for all budgets is available throughout the valley. Additionally, several master planned communities have been built over the last few years in not just Las Vegas, but in all areas of the valley, including Summerlin, Anthem, Green Valley and Southern Highlands. These areas provide residents with quality schools, parks, recreational activities and stores that create the ideal place to raise a family.
Las Vegas also has multiple opportunities for education advancement. With the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the Community College of Southern Nevada, Nevada State College, Regis University-Las Vegas and Touro University-Nevada all within the valley, there is something to fit anyone's higher education needs.
And with the establishment of the Nevada Cancer Institute, Medical Education & Research Institute of Nevada, Keep Memory Alive and multiple hospitals, Nevada is making a name for itself as a premier medical region serving Nevada residents with the highest quality of health care as well.
However, while Las Vegas has evolved to offer much more than gaming, which is keeping the economy going strong, the city is still staying true its nickname as The Entertainment Capital of the World. Las Vegas' locals always have something new and different to do for fun.
Las Vegas offers multiple concerts and shows, anywhere from comedy, to magic, to musical, to acrobatic; nightclubs offering all kinds of music; and shops and stores to serve all tastes. For meals, the city's hundreds of restaurants cook to serve all palettes, many employing world-class chefs and offering views of the Strip.
Additionally, the valley's surrounding mountains allow for hiking, biking, skiing and camping, and Lake Mead offers fishing, boating and jet skiing that, because of the traditionally warm weather, can be enjoyed almost year-round. And for those interested in a more low-key form of entertainment, there are comedy clubs, rotating art galleries and local plays and lectures to visit.

Las Vegas Job Openings Have Higher Pay
By Jen Carpenter
Anyone able to snag a Las Vegas job opening is likely to get paid more than workers in most other cities. A recent report from Forbes used data from PayScale to rank the income of workers in the 100 largest metro areas throughout the country. The Las Vegas area was ranked 15th, with the city's median pay increasing 13.9 percent from $51,500 in 2005 to $58,700 in 2009.
El Paso, Texas, was ranked first, as the city's median income increased by 19.4 percent to $49,100. On the other end of the scale, Harrisburg, Pa., was ranked last, with the city's median pay decreasing by.74 percent to $50,600.
Other cities close to Las Vegas that have been having economic trouble also placed well on the list. Phoenix was ranked 10th, with the city's median pay increasing by 15 percent to $61,100, while Bakersfield, Calif., was ranked second, as the city's median income increased by 18.5 percent to $60,900.
The report noted that in some cities, high unemployment may actually correlate to an increase in median pay. Even though a company may lay off a large number of staff numbers, the people left behind are usually in higher-paid positions, which causes the overall average salary to increase.
Although it appears as though the Las Vegas economy is improving, many experts say a recent decrease in the city's unemployment rate is only a result of a shrinking workforce. In keeping with that theory, the city has continued to see a monthly and yearly decrease in employment.
During November, the Las Vegas-Paradise area saw its unemployment rate decrease from 13 percent to 12.1 percent, following a decrease from 13.9 percent during October. Despite the decrease, the area's current rate is still higher than the national unemployment rate of 10 percent.
The Las Vegas area had a total non-farm employment of 843,100 workers during November, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 851,900 workers during October and a 6.7 percent decrease from last year.
